To put it simply. It's really a story about a soon-to-be-mother who became a vampire who end up defending her kind. But in that course had conflicting emotions whether to remain loyal to her cause or do what her "conscience" dictates.

The good thing I could say about this movie is that Milla Jovovich is amazing in fight scenes. She has proven herself worthy of an action star title.

Some of the technology they showcase where ingenious.

The opening sequence is awesome, too bad they decided to go anti-climactic by shooting point-blank the agents instead of going for a fight.

At least the few minutes of fight sequences throughout the movie, minus the end duel, kept me from getting bored.

Remember Crouching Tiger Hidden Draggon, House of Daggers, The Matrix ... these movies have outrageous fight sequences that are so unrealistic but they work and are good to watch. It's a fine line to go ridiculous and still remain fancy and cool. This movie tripped that line many many times.

This movie adaptation is not unique and has many flaws.

A fancy vampire theme. NOT UNIQUE.

Can't they make something unique nowadays? Hollywood has overused this fictional theme. It would have been better if they just stuck with earthly viruses that mutated, but no, they went further and crap at their idea.

Could have passed as an Aeon Flux sequel. NOT UNIQUE.

The vilian who turned out to be one of her kind? NOT UNIQUE. This theme go as far back as Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

And what's with the hobo living in a cargo container? LOL. I would think that by that time these containers would have been improved if not rendered obsolete. In a century where anti-grav is possible, don't you think huge containers are things of the past? It looks like they just borrowed it from the San Diego port.

And what's with Garth (played by William Fichtner). Is he on crack? It's disappointing to see how Milla looks so stunning and tight in her costume then pan the camera and there you have a shot of a homeless man. They least they could do is give him a better futuristic commoner costume, maybe shave and do his hair. The illusion of being in the future is totally wrecked after you see this guy and his makeshift hideout. It's like, hey, it's not the future its 2006! And wow, he just lives in the middle of an abandoned lot in the city? Wont public utilities check him out for permits? They could have put him somewhere remote. That was stupid.

The sportbike on anti-grav rolling on building walls is overkill. They gone too far.

One would think the vampires' HQ is somewhere underground or remote, but no, they rather live in the luxurious and tallest tower in the city. Bad!

You can also tell their CG people don't know how to render anything elemental and shaddow effects. Some explosion effects are worst than video games. The smoke is very unrealistic, specially the ones coming out from the dome in the final scene. Even smoke has shadow. Clearly they don't know that. And sometimes there's a break in effect succession.

And finally, why do heroins always have to be troubled about motherhood? Maybe that's why they suck because the writters can't think of anything else to give the human dimension to their characters other than giving birth! In some intimate scenes with the kid and Violet, it almost gives me that eerie feeling of a grown woman molesting a minor. Icky, too mushy, and not cool.

Milla Jovovich, stick to resident evil. You rock in that movie.
