A Real Story--Well Told

Based on many of the comments and reactions here, I'm going on a limb and suggesting that you skip this movie unless you're over 30 and going through some sort of life crisis. People apparently expect the same funny, quirky Zach Braff from Scrubs or his Garden State character--without variation, it seems--and no one has the patience or understanding for the characters and situations presented here. I must say, Braff is picking winners and is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors. The film is sensitive, intuitive and has its finger on the pulse of the generation.
This movie is a remake of an equally fantastic Italian film "L'Ultimo Bacio". (Contrary to what some think, it IS very clearly credited at the beginning of the movie; they must've walked in late or weren't paying attention.) It's about people on the verge of a nervous breakdown, as it were, and I can relate. Again, if you're too young to have gone through some of these experiences, watch it in another ten years with a different set of eyes and you just might understand. It's not deep but it is very very real on many levels.
WARNING: Whatever you do, don't see it with a date/partner/spouse. There's too much argument material here... infidelity/sleeping around, unplanned pregnancy, marriage/commitment, living together, etc. See it alone or with a close friend instead... |
