Dispassionate, uninspired and contrived are words that come to mind to summarize the acting. The male lead trivializes any vestigial compassion one might have for the characters as they go tramping forth through their unlucky and woebegotten struggles; caught in the midst of a very upsetting and unfortunate epoch in history. The landscape is visually beautiful, juxtaposing the bitterness of conflict. While this typically yields compassion in buckets, it is generally tempered and diluted by the goofiness of the acting and story. This movie is Eragon to Lord of the Rings; Budapest to Prague; warm water from a hose on a hot day. Wait til it comes out on DVD. |
