Dante Hicks and Randal Greaves are back at it again with the sequel to the 90's film Clerks. The original film became a cult classic and its fanbase was massive. The new film follows Dante and Randal into a new workplace after their beloved Quick-Stop is burned down from a coffee pot accident. A year after this event, the two find themselves at a local fast food joint with some choices in front of them. Dante is now engaged to a control freak Emma Bunting. New intamcies between his manager Becky question whether he is ready to pack up and leave this Jersey life behind him.
At the same time, Randal hasnt aged a day and is still causing havoc with ranting agruements about George Lucas vs. Peter Jackson, the differences between racial signfication, and the comparisons between Anne Frank and Hellen Keller.
The film lives up to the first film by keeping us intrigued, and laughing at the same time. Be warned though, this is no family fun time. This movie has some of the most crude dialogue and scenes that have "graced" film in some time.
Director Kevin Smith put together an excellent follow-up to one of the funniest movies of our time. From Jay + Silent Bob's raunchy humor to the unexpected motivation from the slacker Dante, Smith lights up the characters for the big screen and makes them more than just sinful laughs. The film could never surpass the original but it delivers on a mighty high note. Any fan of the first film cannot afford to miss one of the better comedies in recent years. |
