Almost as shallow as Scientology

I have no doubt that the agents portrayed in this film are the sexiest that IMF could assemble, but who are they and why should we root for them? We know hacker-ace Luther (Ving Rhames) from a past Mission, but the rest of the crew is completely interchangeable. Just substitute your favorite star from "Felicity" at any point in the movie, and it wouldn't make one bit of difference. It's not bad acting, just poor storytelling. Apparently character development was impossible in this mission.
Other shallowness originates from action scenes that don't add up. Why is the Vatican picked for an exchange? What is the weapon everyone is after? Why not take out the agents on the roof with a high-powered rifle, instead of first alerting them of an imminent attack?
If you like jaw-dropping stunts and action, you may still find this one worth the price of admission. I found it glamorous, but mostly hollow, much like the characters on-screen. |
