I Dare You Not to Love This Film! (Poss. Spoilers)

Ol Parker has written a beautiful, very honest and heartfelt story. He managed to cast a group of talented actors who all have that boy/girl next door feel about them, they are all approachable individuals with truthful feelings.
There are three things I completely admire about this film:
1. The Piper/Lena chemistry - it is a very rare thing to see two actresses portray feelings of love and passion for one another that genuinely. Think back to the second Season of The O.C. or even Kissing Jessica Stein - the chemistry between both actresses was hardly believable, was it!? Here we have two women unafraid (as so many other Hollywood actresses are) to act on instinct and base the emotions you see on screen on their own experiences, be in with a man or a woman.
2. London looks absolutely stunning! Ol and his cinematographer picked the best time to shoot the city. I came out of a screening on a crisp and misty December day thinking I was still watching the film. London is also shot as a real environment with real people, unlike Match Point where Woody Allen used the city in a much more touristic way.
3. The fact that a) Heck isn't made out to be a nasty character, giving Rachel a reason to leave, b) Luce is just gay, she is who she is and that is it, c) Rachel just falls in love - the story could have worked with either a man or a woman.
It's an ABSOLUTE shame that American censors thought it needed to be rated R! Love should never be censored. There is no nudity or swearing, it confuses me how they can stand by this rating.
Imagine Me & You really is a lovely heart-warming romantic comedy that will make you fall in love with every character. |
