If you don't know a lot about Bob Dylan skip this one.
Not knowing anything about his life I went wanting to learn about him. I didn't learn a thing except that he must have been a schizophrenic.
I and the 4 attending with me were in Total confusion throughout the film and didn't have a clue as to the relationship of any part of it to another.
Bob Dylan's name is not used once in the film! Not on Paper. Not in dialog! There are six characters of various races, ages, and genders playing completely unrelated roles and not in any logical chronological or other identifiable sequence. They are juxtaposed and intermingled forward and backward in time.
I am told by reading other reviews that these are all aspects of Dylan. You would never have a clue from the movie.
The only common theme is the music in the background and knowing this film was supposed to be about Dylan I listened carefully and could never correlate any apparent connection between the music or lyrics and what was going on on the screen.
From reading other reviews I can see that Dylan fans who already know a lot about him would have a whole different experience than we did.
The filming and cinematography were very good. |
