A good family movie. No wonder the critics hate it

I took my 9 year old to see this movie last night. We had a great time. As a Christian, I was a bit concerned about how the subjects of God and faith would be portrayed. I saw nothing in the movie I considered inappropriate for young children. Even more, I saw many Biblical concepts portrayed in a light but forthright manner. For instance: right before the appointed time for the apocalyptic flood forecast by the Almighty, a television reporter approaches Evan Baxter and asks the pointed question "What makes you so sure that God chose you?" Evan simply stops, looks at the reporter and answers "He chose all of us."
If you read the critics reviews that I did, you will see a number of underlying faults in their opinions of this movie. First off, they forget that this is a MOVIE FOR KIDS!!! It is not intended to be a cinematic icon. It isn't. But I suspect that their biggest source of uneasiness with this film is the fact that it does depict a biblical concept that through faith and trust in God, anything is possible.
Go ahead. Take the kids and have fun. |
