I'd like to know what happened during the making of this movie...did they run out of money, patience or story? First of all, I saw this with my 8 year old son and we go to the movies every Friday night to give my wife a quiet night at home..having said that...this movie is really bad. But it is the kind of "bad" that sneaks up on you at the end.
I've seen comparisons of this movie to Sky High, and I'm telling you, this isn't even close to Sky High (which I loved by the way!) This is the kind of movie that takes you in, creates empathy for the characters (you will dislike Tim Allen in this) and takes the story nowhere.
When leaving the theater my son turned to me and said "Dad, this movie never had any 'buildups' prior to the final battle." There is a small battle scene at the end that takes maybe 2 minutes of screen time. Of course, by this time the super-hero team has decided they really are a "family" and the movie cuts to a "3 months later scenario".
Now, here is the really worst part of the movie...it shows the young girl super-hero acting as Rapunzel in a school play and her cell phone rings...THEN, THE SOUND VANISHES COMPLETELY! The next sound you here is the narrator saying "And the team got back together". It puts up a comic book panel showing them fly away and then says "The End".
Wow, what a dissappointing ending. Then you realize you have wasted $20.00 and 2 hours of time. That "silent as a pin dropping" ending really floored me. It may have been some of the worst directing I have ever seen. It's so bad, that I thought the camera in my theater may have been having technical difficulties.
I'm not a cynical parent who said "You MUST entertain ME as well as my son" but PLEASE have some respect to deliver a proper climax to your audience! |
