I'm sure you are all familiar with the basic plot by now so I won't get into that.
Where this movie shines is in the acting and the way it is told. All the actors did a solid job, but Will Ferrell was by far the best in this movie. Of course don't go in expecting him to be his usual comedic self. He displays some great acting range in this and really I never felt like I was watching him play a character. I was watching Harold Crick, not Ferrell pretending to be him. Great acting job.
The little special effect visual elements added nicely to the movie and never distracted. And the overall direction of the movie, very solid in that it never hovered over a scene too long but it still gave each of the parts of the story enough time to develop properly.
The best comparison I can give to this movie is when Jim Carrey stepped out from his usual comedic roles to do the Truman Show. Like that, this movie has some comedic moments but is overall a drama and Ferrell does a fantastic job in this role.
I highly recommend this movie, it's one of the best I've seen in awhile. |
