It's nice to have a film come around with a positive message that is neither preachy or syrupy.
Will Smith plays Chris Gardner, a bright, affable man with a five year old son (his real life son Jaden) who is struggling to make ends meet in the Bay Area while taking care of his family.
When his investment in inventory of state-of-the-art high tech medical equipment fails to produce the income he thought it would, Chris pursues an internship at a prestigous stock brokerage firm.
The sporadic cash flow from his equipment sales and commission-only arrangement as an intern begins to wear on the threads that holds his family together, and ultimately threatens the very roof over their heads.
The Pursuit of Happyness- the intentional misspelling of the title is revealed early on in the film- is a wonderful surprise of a movie. Based on a true story, it is a very positive film, with a rare positive black role model as a father, about the spirit of determination and motivation, in the face of seemingly overwhelming odds and difficulty, for the sale of family.
Will Smith gives one of the finest performances of his career,
See it today. Bring the family. |
