Volver is a very original film that makes a good contrast and balance between a dark story and the beauty of a family that is united. I was glad to see this type of balance in this movie since the last Almodovar Movie "Bad Education" failed to maintain this balance, instead was full of perversion, graphic sex scenes and darkness. Penelope as "Reymunda" delivers a beautiful performance without overwhelming the viewers. A mother who tries to conceal the body of her husband, who died at the hands of her daughter while he was trying to sexually attack her. On the other side of the drama Reymunda's mother comes back from the dead to complete unfulfilled business with her daughter. Yes, it does sound complex but at the end everything connects to make a surprising plot twist that delivers a smart resolution to the surreal drama. Entertaining and genius direction by the man that does not need any introduction El SeƱor Almodovar. |
