People with no imagination or childlike qualities will hate this film. Well that's fine, because this movie isn't for the boring among us.
If you have an imagination, you remember being a child, seeing things through a child's eyes and the world being somewhere big to have an adventure, you will like this film.
Tideland takes us on a journey into Jeliza-Rose's imagination. In reality her life has some disturbing things going on, but to a little girl, there is time to run and play and imagine. We follow her as her reality falls apart almost without her noticing, and she is instead enthralled by the things she imagines, and the games she plays with her doll heads and a retarded boy she becomes friends with. It has plenty of humour although the way, some of it dark, but not to be taken too seriously.
The visuals in this film are beautiful, and Jodelle Ferland gives an outstanding performance, and is utterly enthralling to watch.
This is easily the best film I have seen in a long time. Ignore all the reviews, watch it without preconceptions, and judge for yourself. In time it is sure to become a classic piece of cinema. |
