The movie itself was not too terribly awful, with regard to the acting, direction and visuals. But the stupid witch woman was a horrible actress, bringing the acting down all on her own.
And what on earth did they do with the story? If you've ever read the original Beowulf story, you'll be appalled at what happens in this movie. They totally ruined it! Instead of a great story about a great and powerful hero, they turned Beowulf into an introspective sensitive male getting in touch with his feminine side. Oh, the poor troll; he is to be pitied. This completely ruined the story.
The original movie has no witch, there is no mention made of Grendel's father, and it is supposed to be allegorical, symbolizing the great battle between good and evil. This movie blurs the distinction between good and evil, and throws so many wrenches into the works as to completely ruin the movie.
In the end, the statement is made that the comparison between Grendel and Caine is unfair, because we are all killers or something stupid like that. Yes, there's no evil in the world according to this movie.
I suppose we ought to believe that the terrorists who are trying to kill westerners are to be pitied. Yes, they are trying to kill us, but it is because we have wronged them. We are getting what we deserve.
Don't waste your time or money on this movie. It's ridiculous. It's propoganda. It ruins a perfectly good story. |
