Had heard this was a sleeper! Wrong

First let me say I am a 67 year old woman. I attended this movie with my 32 y/o daughter and my 12 y/o granddaughter. Both my daughter and I had heard that this movie was a "real sleeper". I don't believe either of us would have seen this movie, BUT it was the 12 year old's birthday gift pick. (She loves Antonio! What can I say?)
I was prepared to just endure the whole movie. I was very, pleasantly surprised. I wound up loving it. I will most definitely buy the dvd when it comes out just to see the dancing again. The plot was a little thin, and very predictable. I think we have all seen the same story over and over again. They thankfully didn't delve too deeply into the gang thing, just enough to give you the gist of how bad the life was for these kids. That this was a fact based story made it the more enjoyable. I am not naive enough to believe this was wholly fact, but it was fun knowing that there was someone out there that cared enough to make an attempt, in his own way, to help out less fortunate kids. The dancing, the enthusiasm of the young people and the mixing of the older music along with the newer music was a delight. So let this be a lesson to me (and maybe to you) - don't always listen to what others say and try something new. You just might be surprised. |
