Well, I went to the midnight showing of Silent Hill expecting to be entertained. I was, and whats more I was seriously creeped out for the first time in a long time. What the movie lacks in story, it more than makes up for in atmosphere and sheer creepiness. Its visually beautiful and engrossing in a filthy hellbound sort of way, and I really wish there was a category to grade for on sound, because it would have gotten an A++ from me. The sound plays an integral part in this movie and is often as, if not more effective at building tension and anxiety as the visuals.
This is horror the hard way, horror with a cudgel. There are no happy lighthearted moments to break the tension and ease your fears, it builds and builds, unrelenting until the very end. Do yourself a favor and go see it. |
