Wow is all I can say and I really don't know how to put this film in words, without revealing the plot of the story. I was expecting a full romantic drama but boy was I in for a treat and many surprises!
This film actually has a wonderful and refreshing balance of darkness, drama, suspense, and laugh out loud humor! That said, it's all in one film. Director Todd Field creates a wonderful and gorgeous tapestry through his fantastic direction and all actors are amazing and "Award" worthy in this film, with the exception of one of my favorite Actors, Jennifer Connelly. Her role was good but it was not as important as I thought it was going to be, again, if you saw the Trailer for this movie you are going to be surprised at how different, touching, and chilling this film is!
I have always liked Kate Winslet, from "Heavenly Creatures" and in her more recent roles but now I have a new found respect and admiration for her in this film, she is hands down sheer brilliance in this movie. So much emotion, subtle and powerful emotion and tremendous sharp and splendid humor. She and Patrick Wilson make a wonderful and exciting "team", their chemistry is perfection. I was drawn in from the very beginning and this film surprisingly kept me in total suspense at the end, the potential possibilities were endless, I thought at least five or six different things were about to take place.
There is another storyline which was not mentioned at all in the Trailer but I read about when the reviews for the film were released. All I want to touch on this is that the director and the actors, Jackie Earle Haley and Phyllis Somerville were amazing and handled the difficult situation in the best and most interesting way possible.
I also read from critics that the ending has a few loose plot holes and I do not agree at all with any of them, this film works and the ending put everything into complete perspective and left me with many thoughts and feelings that were and have been discussed since.
I will see this again and I highly recommend the powerful acting and story of Little Children.
