Not wanting to prejudge this movie I went without reading the reviews first...and I was both thrilled and enchanted. Visually the movie is stunning. And since I knew this is only one book of a series, the hook at the end didn't bother me...after all, every story in life leads onto another.
The human acting was what I expected of a fantasy...a little over in some aspects and a little under in others, but overall the characters told their stories well. The animals as demons were well done...how wonderful to have the demon in us portrayed outside of us.
The story conveys the essence of good and evil, obedience and non obedience in a way that sends the message but doesn't "preach".
I think about the Harry Potter series and the same thoughts come to me...Movies that are well done that can lead people, and especially young people, to think about the world around them in a different light...and question whether what they think they know is correct..are movies that are worth making and well worth seeing. I don't believe that we become any the worse off for questioning and indeed can become stronger in the doing so.
On top of it all...I was entertained and that I enjoy. Go see this...I doubt it you will regret it. |
