Absolutely lacking the heart and grit of Bukowski. Dillon failed to pull off a convincing Chinaski (a face full of stubble and a low and slow delivery just doesn't cut it). Tthe movie meandered and left huge holes. This was a sanitized adaptation of CB's book, that attempted at the seediness and (self-imposed) despair of an alcoholic, abusive, shiftless ***** in Chinaski. It failed miserably.
Read the book instead!
... and what's up with the adapted screenwriters getting billing above Bukowski!? |
