If you have never read any Bukowski I think this movie would be difficult to understand. Set in modern day it is difficult to accept some of the dialogue as well as the reasons for these people's existence.
The character Henry Chinaski, existed during World War II and although the war does not mean much to the character his indifference to it does.
Mainly the movie was cheapened by the characters themselves. The movie did not explore the depth of vulgarity and depravity that is commonplace with Bukowski novels. |
