In all honesty, this is one of the poorest written scripts I've seen put to film in a long time. I had to force myself to finish the movie. I just tried to enjoy it as a drama by itself, but the whole time I could literally feel my brain constricting. It was painful. Virtually none of the characters are believable. They all lack any trace of dimension or complexity. The acting (and script) is way overdone in saccharine melodrama (good grief, that underground wedding scene was awful).
I'm surprised that most reviews here are favorable. Don't believe it. There's an obvious credibility issue in the public reviews for this film as I'm sure that most reviewers here are ideologically driven Christians trying to support what they see as an evangelistic outlet.
As a Christian myself (and an interested student in the prophetic narratives of the Bible), I'm embarrassed that this film in any way presents itself as representative of Christian eschatology. Don't believe that either.
I leave this review on a sad note as I wonder if this really is a snapshot of the contemporary Christian worldview when it comes to the direction the world is going. I only hope that Christianity is not plagued with the incredibly shallow, ignorant, uninformed perspective this movie presents. If so, I'm sure they'll be in for a lot of unpleasant surprises sometime in the future. |
