(If you are curious of my bias, my current political view are at the end of the review.)
This film will undoubtedly be labeled by some as liberal, biased, or some other word. Anyone who does so too quickly is probably not willing to try and answer the hard questions that the film asks (or never saw the film).
While I imagine partisan folks will cheer or jeer at the films commentary on the Iraq war and the current administration; more important are the questions raised about the future direction of America and the role of defense contractors, the military, and congress will play in shaping our future.
This is not a film about small group of insiders trying to shape policy or force us into war. It presents the current administration as simply a continuation of the current trend. It is a commentary on the primary driver of U.S. foreign policy under every president and congress since the 1960's.
The film was very well done and the tone is very even. There is none of the chasing people in the streets or ego driven drama as seen in Michael Moore films. This is much more of a historical documentary with several interwoven stories to reach a strong conclusion. I highly recommend this film if you want a glimps into some of the forces that drive U.S. politics.
(My personal political views)
I describe myself as a fiscally conservative, Libertarian-Republican who at the moment is wondering where the party I believed in disappeared to. The Republicans were so much better when they were not in charge and preached of (1) smaller government, (2)no nation building, (3)fiscal discipline, (4)lower government subsidies, and (5)less government interference in our lives. They've had many years to deliver....where's the beef? I think they are 0 for 5 on my list. As my highschool teacher always said (quoting someone I'm sure), "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely".
