Good-looking but empty

Well-produced but empty biography. Gretchen Mol looks exactly like Bettie Page, but doesn't really bring her to life. Once the movie ends, you'll find that you really don't know much about her. Also, the anti-censorship theme is played a little too simplistically. In the picture, everyone who is involved in nude photos or films is cartoonishly nice. While the real folks may have been very good people, their portrayal in the film is so unrealistic that it undercuts the movie's message. Worth a look on DVD or cable but don't go out of your way to see it. |
