The wholesome Betty Page

I left the movie thinking Betty Page got screwed; she created true beauty and got left with nothing.
Bettie Page was always wholesome, even with a gag in her mouth or a whip in her hand. Grethen Mol captures Bettie's spirit, and you can tell she has fun with her role.

However, Bettie's modeling career is only a small part of this movie. The first few minutes shows a littany of challenges she has to face (molestation, abuse, rape and a lack of economic opportunity). It shows that Betty, like many other women, didnt have a lot of choices when she started posing. It just so happened that God blessed her with a talent for modeling in kinky photographs.

The movie spends a lot of time addressing Bettie's faith. Perhaps the producers hoped that the whips might confuse christian audiences into thinking that "Betty" is "the Passion of the Christ 2."
Despite the prosthelitizing, her return to faith doesn't ring true.

This movie goes past the still images where we first learned of Bettie Page, but, by changing the medium, Bettie is no longer the woman we first saw.
