What the average viewer will think. OK,

Ok. This was neither as bad as the bad reviews or as good as the great reviews. It was about what you'd expect. It was built on a preposterous premise, but that's what you get in this type of movie. A lot of great movies are built on unbelievable premises (the Matrix, time travel, interterrestrials), but this was just a bit too comic book for me to rate as great. Cage was good, and the girlfriend character, for me, was believable. The FBI agent, from CSI? maybe, was harder to get into. She was a bit of a stock character. The near ending twist was good, but the very final ending came up pretty lame. Like many movies, if the average viewer goes in with low expectations, you'll be slightly pleasantly surprised. If the viewer has high expectations, you'll likely be slightly disppointed. My wife liked it, as it kept her attention despite not being very deep. I didn't like the age difference between Cage and the girl, and I don't appreciate Hollywood having everyone jump into the sack together on the first couple dates, but otherwise it was still kind of fun. C plus is about right, in my opinion. See if you agree. |
