This movie spent an inordinate amount of time on side items and caused the main story to be contrived or forced.
The acting was first rate for mostly unknowns. The main character is compelling and we sympathize for this dedicated man, who must find and kill the people responsible for the Munich Olympic killing of 11 Israeli Athletes.
However, we spend 30 - 40 minutes of the movie finding out about the source of information or the Israeli CIA (Mossad) trying to get the name of the source. This part of the story is rediculous, because if Mossad wanted the name of the source, they would trail this amateur team quite easily and find out.
The source does not choose sides, but will not work for a government. However, when given a list of 11 names for the black september group responsible for the Munich killings, they just find the names and do not question where the money is coming from. This is also weak.
Spielberg is great with the camera and really captures the emotions and the 70's, but the main story of whether or not Vengeance gets you anywhere is weak in this movie and not carried out to any solution or any recommendation.
I grew up in the 70's and remember the Munich Olympics. I also remember Black September. If the movie focused on the hunt and the hunters and the hunted better or more in-depth, the movie would have been 30 minutes shorter and deeper.
I am sure a USA channel movie could do as well as this one.
