Descent satisfies this jaded movie-goer

Other than catching a trailer or two, I had not read anything regarding this movie. I tend to be the movie-goer that watches for mistakes, bad acting, continuity issues and the like first, then the second time around, I watch for enjoyment.

I can honestly say, I was absorbed. Not only did the makers of this movie make an excellent choice by not "dumbing down" the female characters, but they also showed women of strength...both mentally and physically. While some reviewers here have said negative things about this, and "flying bamboo" (which I believe was copper pipe?) bad accents (was this not a British movie in the first place? Perhaps they need to work on their British accents) many have overlooked the fact that a good suspense/horror movie can be made with "unknowns", good direction, and excellent feeling for timing and photography.
Foam cave walls as one reviewer has stated, who watched this movie that many times (probably UK release) that this was a factor? Men in makeup doing backflips? Come on...This from someone who would normally care.
Storyline...what else do you need? If you were trapped in the cave...would you not lash out, holler/scream from time to time knowing you are about to die. Give me a break! The storytelling is not in the dialogue but in its double entendre...the descent is not about just going caving and having to find a way out...the descent is about the change in the women and in particular the lead, as her life (already in turmoil) starts to slip away, and she begins her mental descent...dead friends, a best friend who now cannot be trusted, and the fight to keep from becoming, in essence, the very thing that is hunting them. Not just morlock-gollum monsters, with cave floors filled with blood and scattered with bone, but blind to the world, living a dark, lonely existence and fighting to stay alive.
