This is a movie with decent potential but executed horrendously. It starts out ok but goes down real fast and becomes a drudgery to sit through the end. Not only that, it's quite predictable and anti-climatic. You go 'blah' in the end because it turned out to be another Hollywood trash. If it weren't for a lot of nudity, I would've walked out (yeah I'm a guy). I won't say much about the story as not to ruin the movie but I can sum it up this way: This is basically a soft porn and if you want to watch lots of sex (especially unnecessary and pointless), just go rent a porn. Porn has hotter and younger girls and at least they are honest about what they are selling - fantasy sex. Basic Instinct 2 pretends to be an erotic thriller but is actually an R-rated porn with lots of sex scenes thrown in aimlessly to capitalize on male hormones and to boost aging Sharon Stone's career. She wants to use sexuality (not sensuality) to feel that she is still sexy at her age (Could it be a late-life crisis?) but she ends up degrading herself and tarnishing her star image. You start to think, boy is she that desperate to revive her sagging career? After the movie, you can't help yourself from feeling cheated and misled by the promise of suspense and erotic thrill that made the first movie a classic. Yes, this movie accomplished its goal of selling tickets by using lots of (unnecessary) nudity and sex to get guys like me into the theater, but you will still feel cheated afterwards because the movie makes it very clear that this movie is all about fulfilling Sharon Stone's identity crisis and bygone career. You will feel disgusted at yourself for somehow contributing to her blatant manipulation of audience. I don't care if you watch this movie or not but if you want to minimize regret or disappointment in the end, do what I did. Go watch Ice Age 2 and then sneak in for free so at least you wouldn't have to pay for this trash. BTW, I think people who are giving good reviews here are those who worked on the movie because they praise the movie without really tell you much. Learn to sift out fake reviews from real ones. |
