I kept having the deja vu feeling through the film

Was it Antz or Bug's Life? The visuals are virtually identical to Antz, and the story similar to that, as well as A Bug's Life.
This is an amusing, if somewhat disjointed story of a taunted boy who takes his frustrations out on the ant colony in his yard, but the tables are turned when a wizard wannabe ant transforms him to their size. Sound confusing? Well, unfortunately, that's about all the set-up that's given to this plot, and not nearly enough time is either devoted to making the boy character likeable nor worthy of empathy. If you pay attention, it also seems the young boy, left in the care of his batty grandmother and self-absorbed teenaged sister, disappears virtually as his parent' car leaves the driveway for a week-long vacation, yet no one notices his absence as he returns just as they do. The visuals were fine, but not outstanding nor original, and there were far too few comedic bits to keep the adult audience entertained. This was worth seeing mostly for the air conditioned escape from a 100 degree day, but I'd be hestitant to give it glowing recommendations otherwise. |
