Huge horror buff here, you need to ignore the negative reviews. We live in a negative society and I think most of these people slamming the movie didn't even see it or are just kids at home thinking negativity is fun.
The movie is a remake but unlike the diaster of Amityville, Fog, Stranger Calls, Hills Have Eyes this one steps up to the plate.
The story is pretty much same but they added much more violence and gore. This is not a kids movie, unless you want them sleeping in your bed for the next year.
The cinemaphotography is breathtaking, they did a real great jobs with colors , sounds and moods.
Also, the scenes that make you jump out of your seat are not predictible, i.e. the jump from the stranger outside the car of the drivers side, behind the closet, falling and hurting your ankle as the monster is behind you.
They put some thought into this remake, Thank God.
Its worth the ticket price and a bag of chips. I have not seen a theatre clap at the end of a movie since Willy Wonka.
