Pick of Destiny was funny in parts, but had the look and feel of a SNL skit turned into a movie.
I love the D. I know the lyrics. I own the CD. I have the DVD. I share the D with others. In many ways, I am like the apostles carrying forth the message to those that are lost and have not heard. That being said, I'd also like to say that I did not love this movie. I liked it. (Whoa, whoa, whoa ... Like? I'm glad I did this test on you. The friendship test!)
For those of you not familiar with The D - KG and JB (Kyle Gass and Jack Black) consider themselves to be the greatest and best band in the world. Their material is funny, but their attitude towards it is that it is practically devine inspired - unmatched. This attitude allows the listener to laugh at the artists and the material. The material is raw and rife with profanity. There is energy from start to finish, and the end effect is a tractor beam aimed at the core of your brain. To listen is to love.
POD is the story behind Tenacious D - how did the greatest and best band in the world come into being? If this question peaks your curiousity, then go see it. If you don't give a rat's rear end, then go see a different comedy.
I found the movie to be uninspired. It lacked the genius of the Tenacious D album. There were no real surprises, no shock, no awe - just a predictable script. Jack Black was his usual self - a cross between Jim Carrey with Down Syndrome and a sluggish thyroid. It was nice to get to know Kyle Gas a little - but he wore a Trainwreck tshirt through the whole thing (Trainwreck is Kyle's version of a Jack Blackless Tenacious D), which I found to be a cheap tactic.
This was NOT the greatest and best movie in the world. This was just a tribute.
