Those three words encapsulate the movie, which is a story that takes a slice of reality and paints it Hollywood style. It does so by creating the perfect blend of "emphasis" and "attraction" needed to elevate the subject to the forefront of society. The writer had a vision and the director executed perfectly.
The visuals are beyond words. Although the movie is a bit on the long side, the use of slow-moving shots and level of detail at the right moments were just captivating. It's too often in movies today that the audience is thrown to the wolves of CGI animation accompanied by dizzying effects and plot distractions. It's nice to leave the movie theatre for a change with the feeling that you absorbed the action.
Although not perfect, this is by far the best movie I have seen in a while. Dark realism is not my cup of tea, but the movie succeeds in what it set out to do. My hat goes off to a job well done. Hopefully the film's message is just as successful in reaching out to the individuals who have the power to change... |
