A Movie That is Just Fun to Watch
by Tom (movies profile)
Oct 2, 2005
This is not a cerebral movie. There is no moral to the story. There is no philosophical point to make. The plot is the standard dork saves the world plot seen in a hundred movies. So why watch it? Because it is just plain fun to watch.
It is fun to watch Noah Wyle, usually all serious and covered in surgery gore, play an extreme nerd who bungles his way through the challenge of saving the world. It is also fun to watch a well-known, soft-spoken and usually very calm comedian (Bob Newhart) do his first fight scene on film.
The special effects are done well, and the whole film moves along at a pace that keeps the laughs coming. There are a few instances of mild profanity and one off-screen sexual relationship between a man and woman not married to each other. This makes this film very mild according to the usual Hollywood taste for much more of these things.
This is a movie you watch just because it is fun to watch. |
