a classic B movie

I spend a lot of times explaining to my friends what do I mean when I say B movie, and "Blast" is a perfect example. A solid crew, nice cam moves, and exterior... producers job was done good. What was missing here was the fact that Eddie Griffin IS a comedian first and foremost and somehow he struggled here to be a serious tough ex-navy SEAL ex-fireman boat guy. Breckin Meyer was very solid and I dont think this can hurt his career too much. Vinnie Jones was in his standard kick-arse-lad-mood, as well as divine Vivica Fox (I wish she had a longer role in the movie).
Music should have had much less bass, and much more subtle tones, especially with the hostage situation, and that little boy around, and some scenes should have been cut differently... it felt like they were cut too soon or prolonged. But all in all not a bad movie for a lazy Sunday afternoon especially if you saw a big Hollywood bluff before that. |
