SPOILERS!!!
I don't really like Woody Allen movies. 'Anything Else' and 'Melinda and Melinda' were huge disappointments. But after seeing 'Match Point', I'll have to change my point of view about Allen movies. The story is a drama, unfortunatly the American trailer advertises for a thriller. First of all: 'Match Point' only comes close to a thriller the last half hour. You'll be disappointed if you're expecting a thriller.
The story opens with poor Chris Wilton, a tennis teacher. Tom, one of his students, invites him over to meet his sister Chloe. Chris falls immeadiatly in love with Chloe. They're going to get married soon, Chris allready received a job in the company of Chloe's father. But when Tom introduces his fiancée, Nola, Chris gets immediatly obsessed with the American woman. Both start an affair, but when Nola turns out to be pregnant, Chris will have to decide. A live with Chloe, full of money and wealth. Or an exciting life with poor Nola?
First of all, I have to say that Scarlett was amazing in this movie, and that she should get an award for her performance. Meyer and Mortimer were good, but Johansson does steal the show. Great script written by Allen, great settings... Overall: Allen deserves the Match Point. |
