the movie opens with a difficult scene to watch. not only was the activity disturbing, but the acting in the opening scene was forced, plastic, and surreal.
the rest of the movie was alright, however there are points that seem WAY overacted or out of touch with normal behavior (ie. the daughter, who appears to be six or seven years old is lifted out of a booster seat ... it doesn't seem she can even unbuckle her own seat belt). either the director doesn't have kids of his own or this was a bizarre attempt at a politically correct point that no one cares about.
viggo does a decent job, but not his best work. the rest have moments of overacting to a point of absurdness or come across as two dimensional.
the action, though overly violent, does keep the movie traversing through it's unusual path. the storyline was slow in several parts. i think the director was hoping that strong, rich scenery would enhance the movie, but the scenery wasn't good enough.
i'm not UNhappy about paying to see this in the theater, but if i knew then what i know now, i would have waited for the rental. |
