This is one of those rare gems that is "as good" as the book. Having been introduced to John Le Carre for the first time by reading The Russia House, I've been waiting for the Constant Gardener movie version of the book ever since the rumors started a few years back.

But this is not about the book. It's about the movie. And as you can see from my grades, it's outstanding.

The story is simply superb. Traveling aften to countries in Africa, including Kenya, I can tell you with confidence the premise of the movie is not that far-fetched. Despite the emmotionally charged commercials on TV, big pharma are "in it for the money." And they perform many tests on human subjects that are downright illegal in "civilized" nations with little regard for consequences.

A good rule of thumb, if you're interested in this subject, is that for every "successfull" drug there are 5 that failed. And many (not all) companies begin human trials overseas long before they are allowed to begin a Phase III trial at home.

The bottom line is this: go see the movie. With sub-standard movies Hollywood has been releasing lately, this one tips the balance in the other direction and leaves you satisfied.
