I went into this movie with few expectations, and I left with memories I will not soon forget.
The Constant Gardener is a depressing movie, I left the theater in a very somber state. This movie challenges our culture to take a moment to stop and think about the negative impact the industrialized nations is throwing upon undeveloped places in the world...like Africa.
I am extremely glad that this movie was made, and is being shown in "mainstream" channels. A story with the magnitude and views such as this one is rarely shown in your local chain theater, only the art houses.
Some may say that the movie is boring, or not a thriller....but that likely means that they did not "get" it. This movie doesn't tingle the back of your spine so much as it tingles the back of your brain. The movie will challenge you, and you can choose you accept it or run away from it.
While the crowd was sparse for only the second nights showing, I do believe those who watched it with me left with similar feelings of humility, sadness, and amazement. |
