Well, you've gotta hand it to Bill Murray: he finds one emotion and sticks with it. In fact, he is so morose, so utterly BLANK, that he made a 100 minute movie feel like it was 200 minutes long! How much longer can you sustain a shot of someone staring blankly into space? And from how many angles, and how many times? I wanted to stand up in the middle of the theatre and scream, "Okay, we get it already!" Geez! With all of that being said, Jack Nicholson already did this (and much better) in "About Schmidt". What IS redeeming about this film are the 4 women (one of whom may or may not be the mother of his illegitimate son) he visits, most notably Frances Conroy and Jessica Lange. Sharon Stone isn't bad herself. Thank God for them! If they hadn't added some flavor to this bland stone soup of a movie, I might have slipped into a coma! Did I mention that this film is BORING, too? I gave this movie C's across the board because it is the very definition of the word mediocre. Don't see it unless you've had caffeine! And plenty of it. Why not just bring a thermos of espresso into the theatre if you must go! |
