Sorry but this cinematic non-Operatic version of Wagner's Operatic Masterpiece does not even begin to measure up to Wagner's Opera by the same name and that is a pity because with cinema one can have effects that can not or are very difficult to achieve on stage. Give me a very bad performance of the Opera which besides this version of cinematic crap would make a bad Opera performance look very good any day.
I miss the Liebestod of the Opera in which Isolde and Tristan sing a very passionate almost sexual
duet with a climatic ending with Isolde singing the same thing
before she ends things. I also miss the music which Wagner wrote especially some of the very brooding atmospheric music used as preludes to various acts especially the one which is like a fog rising up from the damp forest floor.
Overall grade is C- and that is being very kind. |
