Exquisite, too bad some audiences won't get it

Have read some very condescending newspaper reviews of this, so the most lucrative movie audiences (males 14-35) are going to avoid this because they're sure it's a waste of their time. I guess if they expect not to "get it," they might respond to it as too simple or remote for them, but it will haunt them in another 30-40 years. For those able to receive the message here -- largely that who we are inside endures; we may mature or become more experienced, but emotions and attachments are what they are throughout our lives. This film couldn't have portrayed the thought more beautifully, with lovely scenery, moments of true humor, and great sensitivity. A shame it's going to be left on the shelves and consigned to the "special audiences only" limbo -- doesn't deserve it and Maggie Smith and Judy Dench give absolutely perfect performances. If you are over 40, I urge you to find it; if you are under 40, I dare you to expand your imagination and experience what lies before you. |
