Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT see this film if you have a closed mind! This is a fair spoiler alert! The film deals almost to perfection with the journey of a transgendered woman who is on the verge of sealing the deal with one final operation. Then she discovers that she has a son she was not aware of whom she needs to bail out of jail. So she flies cross continent to discover that this troublesome young man is quite likable, and she offers to drive him back with her to LA--only she doesn't tell him that she is his "father".....There are quite a few hilarious moments in this film, expertly mingled along with some poigniant ones. The whole is simply a masterful joy to behold, an extravaganza of unusual circumstances, human understanding, acceptance, and finally, and most importantly, love. Nobody's perfect, and this odd little gem of a film exemplifies this fact. Let it be said that Felicity Huffman is a wonder in this role, a shoo-in for an Oscar Nod. She's most likely going home with the Gold, I think. She delivers one of the finest female performances I have ever seen committed to celluloid. |
