I was not sure what to expect when I sat down for The Aristocrats. What I got was an excellent documentary that carefully examines the question of what makes some laugh and others wince. Although the set up and punchline are the same everytime, it is what the performer places in between that reveals something about themselves and about us depending on how we react to it. Without giving anything away, my favorite executions were those delivered by a mime, a Christopher Walken impressionist, a magician employing cards, the kids from South Park, Penn & Teller, Bob "Full House" Sagat, and Gilbert Godfrey. If you are willing to relax and think about what you are seeing, as opposed to simply writing it off due to its foul language, you will learn something and undoubtedly laugh. |
