The Benchwarmers is very funny...

Denis Dugan, director of National Security, Saving Silverman, Big Daddy, does hilarious work here. This B- movie manages a few cracks that leave you gasping for breath while being overtaken by laughter such as when Clark (Heder) throws a rock at a running lawnmower and it bounces back, hitting Ritchie (Spade) smack in the crotch. They had all the tools; riotous veterans like David Spade, Rob Schneider and Jon Lovitz; an uproarious director; and of course, the genius film-making team of Adam Sandler and Allen Covert, who made classics including Big Daddy, Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison, The Waterboy, and 50 First Dates. Although all actors are great, surprisingly, Napoleon Dynamite star Jon Heder gave the funniest performance. Very similar to the Bad News Bears, The Benchwarmers is not totally fresh and original, but still manages to find a way to succeed.

A millionaire nerd, Mel (Lovitz), who wants to form a baseball team and compete with the mean Little League teams in the state, scouts Gus and his nerdy buddies, Richie and Clark. An outstanding ballplayer, Gus becomes a role model for nerds and outcasts all over. However when his fans learn that Gus (Schneider), himself, was once a school bully, they feel outraged and betrayed, until Gus tires extraordinarily to win back their admiration and trust.

Hopefully, this extremely stupid yet often laugh-out-loud movie will make $100 million, but that would be a long shot. Without expecting anything special while entering the theater, it turned up after all that this movie was highly entertaining throughout. Surely go see it on a boring day or to cheer up. I warn you however, be prepared to laugh
