Girls 10-14 will probably like this enjoyable fantasy/comedy best. But "Aquamarine" also gives grownups a chance to catch three rising stars: Emma Roberts, star of "Unfabulous" and niece of Julia Roberts; pop-star JoJo Levesque; and Sara Paxton of "Darcy's Wild Life". Emma and JoJo do a wonderful job of handling the dramatics while Sara handles the comedy.
Comparisons to "Splash" are inevitable. But the difference is the friendship between the three girls, which gives "Aquamarine" a warmth lacking in the earlier movie. I found the ending a little unsatisfying but it is probably what would have happened.
Parents - although rated PG, there is absolutely nothing offensive in this movie, so it's okay to bring the whole gang. |
