Interestingly, I was thrown back to my dayz in high scrool when we cut class to cruise hillsides looking for empty pools ala Z-Boyz. We lived vicariously through the pages of Skateboarder magazine and those few magical Summers when we took on alias's carrying no I.D. and giving the cops Z-boyz names when we got caught shredding an empty. Somehow me being white, Shogo Kubo didn't seem to go over very well. I learned a great deal through those guyz and so did thousands of kids through the mag. We got pretty damned good at skatin'.
The movie itself seemed to attempt to cram a lot of history into rather short span of time and therefore seemed rushed to me. I felt as if the characters were well cast and in particular, Emile Hirsch as the incorrigible Mr. Adams.
There was a lot of very cool history depicted in this flick and yeah, the documentary was probably better but still, if you were a skater punk in the 70's and have skate rats now, go take em' to see the flick and let them see just where it all got started.
Two more things, no, three. Ty Page was a panzy, the soundtrack is excellent, and I think I probably suck at movie reviewing! (First and likely last attempt). |
