I read this book during my first tour in Iraq in 2003. If the people writing these reviews haven't read the book, then you need too. Hollywood will put it's own spin on things. The director is a former Marine and the guy who helped write the screenplay, drum roll please, also the same Marine the movie is about.
For one individual to say "if you call a Marine a Jarhead, you'd better be ready for a fight because they take it as an insult", he's full of crap. Most of us ignore morons who run their mouths like that. When I read the book in 2003, sitting in the Kuwaiti and Iraqi desert, I was blown away at how this guy felt 12 years earlier was the same way a lot of us were feeling at the present time.
I am a two time OIF vet preparing for time number 3 with a Marine rifle company. All these people's opinions about how the Marines are portrayed, etc. just need to READ THE BOOK ALSO.
Thank God we live in a country where we have the things we do.
