I served 92-96, 0331. if you don't know what that is
f@$& you anyway. For the former marines who don't see this movie as accurate you probably served with a typewriter or wear shiny rank insignia so you might have been in a different tent. These guys did a great job. For all the Marines out there, don't you remember the boredom and the wondering of girlfriends actions. It was dead on. My biggest gripe with the movie was when Jamie Fox lead the run formation on a run wearing gas masks, without wearing one himself. He would have lost all of his respect by not leading by example. I made sandbag piles, don't you guys remember the shoulder and back pain. Don't you remember the harrassment and doing horrifying things to each other to get a laugh. Man we did all that stuff and it was great. When Swoff, doesn't let the Ssgt
know that the other kid lit the hummer on fire and he takes the dicking. And then the payback. Man this movie was right on with all the feelings of being there. I do have to say, I would have loved to see swoff take out that officer in his crosshairs. All of this BullSh%@ is a small part of the things that are great about being a Marine.
Most of my time i wanted to get out, but i always loved putting my Cammies on, even the very last day. I hated it but i pressed them everyday and spit shined my boots even to wreck em in the dirt.
These guys captured it, they really did. You know, that being a young enlisted man is like high school, you hate it when you're there and miss it when your gone. I think about it every single day |
