To preface I was a Marine for 4yrs, 1998-2002.
The movie does a good job portraying the real way many small units interact. They don't get everything right but almost everything that should be there is there.
One thing I think some people seem to be forgetting is that this movie is based on the true experiences of the main character during Desert Storm. Does it lack the action of Full Metal Jacket or Saving Private Ryan?, yes. Is that a bad thing?, depends on what you're looking for in this movie. Would it have been better for the writer to make up things that never truly happened to Swafford?
Another point to note, this movie's soundtrack is amazing and the director chooses great times to bring it in. The visuals are also absolutely killer, watching the oil fields burn is very cool.
For those that think this movie is an insult to members of our armed forces including Marines I would have to disagree. I found nothing about the movie to be insulting or grossly inaccurate.
Overall I think the movie does a good job portraying the true story of what happened to Swafford. |
