I've never played the game, never cared about playing the game, and still don't care about playing the game. With that said, I'd like to add that I really enjoyed the movie. I went into it with not-so-high expectations. After all, it's based on a video game and I've heard that past game adaptations haven't really lived up to their expectations. But I was pleasantly surprised with the good storyline and the terrific acting and effects in Doom.
The highlight of the film for me was the acting. I've been a huge fan of Karl Urban since his LotR days, and so he's the main reason I went to see this movie in the first place. I also always enjoy The Rock in his films, so for me it was an interesting combination of Karl and The Rock in a movie together. I'm very happy for Karl; he did a superb job and held his own against The Rock really well. He is totally not getting the credit he deserves for his role as Reaper.
The movie itself was quite bloody and gross in most parts, but it wasn't overwhelming or anything. I had worried, too, of how scary it might be since I've read interviews of some of the cast saying how "terrifying" it was going to be. But, to me, it was just the right amount of scary mixed in with the right amount of story and good acting.
Doom was well worth spending my money and a Friday evening on, and I'm contemplating seeing it again. So coming from a non-Doom/video game fan, that should mean something :) |
